Term 6 2018-19
Our learning this term
The children have thoroughly enjoyed this term’s topic on Amazing Animals. We started by learning the story The Snail and the Whale. The children loved learning about snails, observing them and writing letters to the whale. It was lovely to see the children applying their learning during free flow by looking for snails in the garden, making collage snails inspired by Henri Matisse and creating 3D sea scenes and sea creatures such as jellyfish.
We then moved onto The Very Busy Spider. The children loved learning the story and making a huge spider’s web out of string! The writing that they produced independently in free flow was fantastic!
This term, each class has performed their class assemblies. Their teachers were incredibly proud of them! They spoke about their work and performed their songs so confidently and with huge smiles on their faces. The below photograph shows some of us in rehearsal!
The children loved their last forest school session with Teresa. The children had fun in the meadow collecting and looking at bugs! They also pretended to be bumble bees and learnt how they collect nectar – they even learnt how to do a special waggle dance! They collected wild flowers and made a special colour chart and also made a magic potion using the natural resources all around them.
We also enjoyed having the dads and special grown-ups in for our Father’s Day Tea! The children worked very hard to learn a selection songs and they were very proud of the fantastic cards and biscuits that they made.
We loved our visit from Zoolab. We had the opportunity to meet and handle lots of different animals including Jelly the millipede, George the giant snail, Franklin the corn snake and Buttercup the Tarantula!
Yet more highlights of this term have included Sports Day and Bastille day!
At the end of term, the children thoroughly enjoyed their two Year 1 transition days. They met their new teachers and started to get familiar with their new classrooms. The FS2 team would like to say what a wonderful year we have had and how much we have enjoyed working with your children.
We hope you have a lovely summer holiday and we wish the children every success for their exciting new adventure in Year 1!
