Term 3 2019-20
Our learning this term
Topic: Rumble in the Jungle
We have had a wonderful term learning about life in the jungle. We received a letter from National Geographic who asked us to explore a newly discovered area – the Katesgrovian Jungle. We practised our measuring skills by measuring jungle leaves and animal poo! We also measured the temperature in the jungle ponds and learned how to read thermometers.
We have looked at the artwork of Henri Rousseau, specifically ’Tiger in a Tropical Storm’. We explored different textures by scrunching, twisting and layering before making our own jungle collages. Some of our finished products were stunning!
We have had a wonderful term reading and writing about the jungle. We have read the non-fiction text ‘Poisonous Animals’ and practised how to retrieve information, make inferences and understand new vocabulary. We also read and wrote our own version of ‘Where the Wild Things Are’. We have been working hard on using the new vocabulary that we have read in our writing.
We have spent a lot of time this term working on our measuring skills and telling the time. If you are able to support at home, telling the time can be awfully tricky so we would really appreciate your help in practising the skill! We have also learnt to make amounts using different coins and are beginning to look at how to give change; again, this can be a difficult skill to master so any help that you can give would be wonderful. On the last day of term we celebrated Maths Day! Year 2 chose to use our shape knowledge to create jungle animals, linking to this term’s learning. We put lots of skills to good use such as measuring with a ruler and describing the properties of 3D shapes.
