Term 2 2019-20
Our learning this term
In term two our topic was science based. The children learned all about how all living things are classified and how a branching database works. They particularly enjoyed learning some Latin. They then learnt about Evolution and Inheritance and how characteristics are passed down.
In Maths we have focussed on fractions, decimals and percentages. The children have learnt to add fractions with the same and different demonstrators. They have learnt to multiply and divide fractions and to multiply fractions by whole numbers. We also continued to focus on our arithmetic skills and are continuing to practice long division and multiplication!
In Reading, we have continued to focus on vocabulary and the skills of retrieving information and making inferences and deductions. The children have been practicing using quotes from the text as evidence for their answers. They have studied the book ‘Holes’ by Louis Sacher. The children have written Non Chronological Reports, stories, diaries and a free writing challenge.
All three Year 6 classes will continue to work hard. As we get closer to the SATS we will focus on exam techniques and ensure gaps in their understanding of the curriculum are filled. They will continue to receive weekly homework and we thank you for your continued support with this.
