Term 2 2018-19

Our learning this term


Nursery children have had a wonderful half term!


Our topic this term was called ‘Let’s Celebrate’. We have learnt lots about Bonfire Night, Birthdays, Diwali and Christmas as well as sharing our experiences of all the special events within our families and cultures. We have learnt lots of new vocabulary related to these special times and have enjoyed hearing about our friend’s lives and how they are similar and different to our own.


In our role play area, we have pretended to have birthday parties and tea parties, before it was changed into an Elves workshop in time for Christmas! The children were motivated to make marks as they wanted to write letters to Father Christmas and give cards to one another. They also practiced their scissor skills by cutting pictures they selected from toy magazines!



We have had lots of new children start nursery this term and they have now settled very well into the routines. They are all beginning to form friendships and are showing growing independence in choosing what they would like to play with each day.


We have been singing lots of nursery rhymes to develop our language and learnt different number songs to practice our counting.


We have been practicing sharing our toys, taking turns and being good friends to each other.


For Christmas we enjoyed decorating our class Christmas tree. We wrapped presents in our elves workshop and we made some great Christmas party hats for our Christmas singing performance!


We learnt lots of Christmas songs and really enjoyed singing these to our families who came in to watch us.


On our last day we had a Christmas party. We had party food, pulled crackers and played party games such as musical statues.


Next term our topic will be called ‘Superheroes Rule!’ The children will have the chance to dress as their favourite superhero for a day. We will be sharing superhero themed books and engaging in lots of role play.


Next term we also have some more new children starting Nursery.
