Term 6 2017-18
Our learning this term
The children have thoroughly enjoyed this term’s topic on Amazing Animals. We started by learning the story The Snail and the Whale. The children loved making story maps, acting out the story and learning about snails – to name just a few things! It was lovely to see the children applying their learning during free flow by looking for snails in the garden, making plasticine snails and making up their own stories.
We then moved onto The Very Busy Spider. The children loved learning the story and making a huge spider’s web out of string! The writing that they produced independently in free flow was fantastic!
At the start of term Maple class performed their class assembly. Their teachers were incredibly proud of them! They spoke about their work and performed their songs so confidently and with huge smiles on their faces. The below photograph shows us in rehearsal!
The children loved their last forest school session with Teresa. The children had fun in the meadow collecting and looking at bugs! They also pretended to be bumble bees and learnt how they collect nectar – they even learnt how to do a special waggle dance! They collected wild flowers and made a special colour chart and also made a magic potion using the natural resources all around them.
We also enjoyed having the dads and special grown-ups in for our Father’s Day Tea! The children worked very hard to learn a selection of songs and they were very proud of the fantastic cards and biscuits that they made.
Danger day was yet another highlight of this busy term! The children were encouraged to take a risk and step outside their comfort zone. Putting their hands in feely boxes, lighting candles and completing a blind folded obstacle course were the activities which they were challenged to. We loved their positive, can do attitudes!
Enterprise Day was great fun too! We made keyrings, bracelets and magnets to sell at our Summer Fayre. The children were so proud of what they made and eager to buy them!
We loved our visit from Zoolab. We had the opportunity to meet and handle lots of different animals including Matilda the millipede, George the giant snail, Pudding the corn snake and Ivy the Tarantula!
Yet more highlights of this term have included Sports Day, our drama workshop and Bastille day!
At the end of term, the children thoroughly enjoyed their two year 1 transition days. They met their new teachers and started to get familiar with their new classrooms. The FS2 team would like to say what a wonderful year we have had and how much we have enjoyed working with your children. We hope you have a lovely summer holiday and we wish the children every success for their exciting new adventure in year 1!
