Term 5 2017-18
Our learning this term
This term in topic we have been looking at Habitat safari which kicked off with an exciting trip to Waterloo Meadows. Here we did a Habitat Safari looking at which minibeasts lived in which microhabitats. We got the chance to do some quick sketches of bugs we found and made habitats for a selected animal. In Science we have been developing our knowledge of habitats by comparing and sorting living and non-living things, food chains and how different habitats provide for different plants and animals.
Also this term we found out that we were taking part in Secret Agent Training School. Here we met some special agents who gave us a range of tasks to complete including: obstacle courses, laser challenges, code hunting, code breaking, chalk disguises, finger print disguises and a secret agent boot camp. We all worked really hard to tackle the challenges that came our way and made excellent secret agents.
In English we have been working on applying our writing skills into a range of topics including letter writing, character descriptions, recounts and narratives. We are working hard to make sure we edit our work to ensure that the grammar and punctuation is accurate and consistent.
We have spent a lot of time this term working on our basic arithmetic (including addition, subtraction, multiplication, division , fractions of amounts and missing number problems) We call these the super six! The rest of the time this term has been spent filling in gaps with our individual mathematical needs.
In our guided reading sessions we have been doing focus groups to look at a range of skills including: understanding vocabulary, finding key information, sequencing events, inferencing and predicting using clues that we’ve read so far.
The Royal Wedding
Congratulations to the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex. We had a wonderful time learning about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle and celebrating their wedding. We made biscuits, flags and wrote invitations for our own wedding that afternoon!
