Term 5 2017-18
Our learning this term
This term, Year 1 have been learning about safety. We have designed posters about how to stay safe on the internet and have read the story about ‘Smartie the Penguin’ and ‘Chicken Clicking’. We have also learnt how to cross the road, stranger danger and have discussed water safety. For our homework projects we also designed safety posters.
In Topic we have learnt all about Reading and the 3Bs and made leaflets. We have made maps using map keys and symbols. We also went on a trip through Reading town centre and visited the museum and library. Whilst we were walking, we discussed how to stay safe and looked up at the old building above the shops. In the museum we got the opportunity to look at all of the old biscuit tins and find out more about Reading. We also had fun in Forbury Gardens!
We also celebrated the Royal Wedding by designing and making wedding cakes, decorating biscuits, learning how to dance with a partner and then we attended our own Katesgrove Royal Wedding.
In Maths we have been working out subtraction and addition calculations. We have been looking at fractions of shapes and amounts. We have learnt about place value and learning our number bonds to ten and twenty.
In English we have been writing reports and have written recounts about our trip. We have also been looking at the features of a poster and writing instructions. We have been editing our work and publishing it.
In PE we have been practising our throwing and catching skills. Please can you make sure that all children have a full PE kit after half term, as we will be practising for sports day.
Thank you for your continued support with the homework project. The safety posters were fantastic!
