Term 4 2017-18
Our learning this term
Our Term 4 topic in Nursery was called ‘Brilliant Books’.
We focused on the stories ‘Dear Zoo’ and ‘The Tiger who came to tea’. The children really enjoyed these stories and are now able to recall the plot and answer lots of questions about the characters and main events.
The children found it very funny that the tiger in ‘The Tiger who came to tea’ ate all of the food in Sophie’s house! We wrote shopping lists together of what Sophie’s Mummy would need to replace.
We did some cooking (making cupcakes and rice crispie cakes) to practise our counting and understanding of measuring.
The animals in the story ‘Dear Zoo’ were sent back because they were ‘too big’, ‘too tall’ etc. so we did a lot of work on describing animals and shapes together.
The children loved learning Makaton signs for the animals in the story. This aided their retelling. Unfortunately, the cold weather stopped us from going on our trip to Waterloo Meadows but the children loved performing the story to their parents in Nursery.
This term our role play area inside the classroom was a post office where the children used their problem solving skills to work out how to package the animals to “send them back” just like in the story ‘Dear Zoo’!
World Book Day took place this term. The children dressed up in some fantastic costumes. This also happened to be the day we had snow so it was very exciting!
Next term our topic is called ‘People Who Help Us’. We will learn about the variety of people who look after us such as police, fire-fighters, doctors, nurses etc. We will study some non-fiction books, learning how to use books and the internet to retrieve information. We will also role play making a 999 call and have a visit from a real life Police Officer.
