Term 3 2018-19
Our learning this term
Reception has thoroughly enjoyed this term’s topic of Marvellous Me. They have enjoyed learning about our skeletons and our bodies when we read Funnybones. The children made skeleton pictures and tried to find the bones in their own bodies.
We also have been reading Oliver’s Vegetables and learning about healthy eating, healthy choices and the importance of eating 5 portions of fruit and vegetables a day. The children have enjoyed cooking and eating scrambeld egg and vegetable soup, both healthy choices!
The children continue to approach their daily key worker sessions with enthusiasm. Cooking, using the bikes and pretending to be Police Officers in our role play area! These sessions are also an excellent opportunity for the children to apply their phonics – the writing that they have produced shows they have been learning well. We have also started our once a fortnight woodwork sessions, the children have loved it.
In Maths this term we have been learning about solid shapes – amongst many other things. It has been great to see so many of the children incorporating their knowledge into their play by making solid shapes and going on solid shape hunts around the classrooms and garden!
The children enjoyed their visit to Reading Library. They met a librarian who read them a story and talked to them about all the books available and how you can join the library and borrow 30 books at a time – what a great way to save money! Thank you to all the parents who were able to take some time out and help us walk the children down there, we couldn’t do it without you.
We are looking forward to continuing our Learning Journey next term when our new topic will be Brilliant Books – starting with Michael Rosen’s brilliantly rhythmic book We’re Going on a Bear Hunt!
Over half term, keep reading and talking with your children. Have a lovely half term break and we look forward to reading and sharing their Wow Sheets with the class at the start of Term 4!
