Term 3 2017-18
Our learning this term
Reception has thoroughly enjoyed this term’s topic on Traditional Tales. They have enjoyed learning the Billy Goat’s Gruff, the Gingerbread Man and the Little Red Hen. The children learnt to tell the stories using story maps and have had fun acting out the stories too. We were delighted to see so many of the children incorporating these traditional tales into their play by creating story maps and drawing the characters.
The children continue to approach their daily key worker sessions with enthusiasm. Making pizzas and bread, using the bikes and pretending to be bakers in our role play corner were particularly popular activities! These sessions are also an excellent opportunity for the children to apply their phonics – the writing that they have produced has been fantastic!
In Maths this term we have been learning about solid shapes – amongst many other things. It has been great to see so many of the children incorporating their knowledge into their play by making solid shapes and going on solid shape hunts around the classrooms and garden!
A real highlight of this short but busy term was hatching chicks! The chicks arrived still in their eggs and we loved looking after them and watching them grow for the two weeks they stayed with us.
The children thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Reading Library. They met a librarian who read them a story and talked to them about all the books available.
We are looking forward to continuing our learning journey next term when our new topic will be Brilliant Books – starting with Michael Rosen’s We’re Going on a Bear Hunt!
Over half term, keep reading with your children and encourage them to write. We look forward to reading their Wow Sheets at the start of term!
