Term 2 2018-19
Our learning this term
The children have thoroughly enjoyed our topic on celebrations. We started by learning about Bonfire Night with the children sharing their experiences and watching Sparklers at school. They learnt the traditional English rhyme about November 5th and also listened to the story of Guy Fawkes.
Our next celebration was Diwali. The children loved making coconut ladoos and acting out the story of Rama and Sita, particularly the part of Ravana the 10 headed monster! We have also learnt a Diwali song that we will sing to you all at the end of term sing along.
After Diwali we celebrated International Children’s Day – we looked at pictures of children around the world playing together and realised how we all like to play the same games. We also wrote a book about ourselves which we have published. It lives in our classroom book corners.
Child initiated learning is extremely important in Foundation Stage. We encourage the children to be independent learners, to select their own resources and to take responsibility for their own learning, supporting and guiding them as they play. This term they have been amazing us with their independent mark making and writing, ability to apply their own learning and use their imaginations.
Forest school has been a real highlight of this term. We had great fun learning about autumn, making clay hedgehogs and listening to the different sounds in the woods using magic listening gems! We also enjoyed having some free time to explore. Digging for worms and making mud paint was fantastic!
We are looking forward to next term when our new topic will be Traditional Tales. Over the holidays keep encouraging your children to play, mark make and, of course, read! Your child will receive a ‘wow’ sheet to record their holiday news (these are also available on the class page on the Katesgrove website.) We look forward to reading them! We wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year.
