Term 2 2017-18
Our learning this term
Year 6 have continued to work hard, learn new concepts and improve their exam skills.
In maths, we focussed on fractions. This topic takes up a large portion of the maths curriculum so we had to ensure that the children could tackle fluency problems and use their reasoning skills to demonstrate their understanding.
In Reading, we have continued to focus on vocabulary, retrieving information and making inferences and deductions using quotes from the text as evidence. In Writing, the children wrote suspense stories based on ‘The Giant’s Necklace’ by Michael Morpurgo. In addition to this, the children wrote newspaper reports based on the story.
In topic we covered Geography- looking at the physical and human features of the UK.
In science we looked at evolution and inheritance: why we look like our parents; learning key vocabulary and looking at the timeline of earth.
It was so lovely to see so many of you come to see your child’s class assembly. The children enjoyed planning them and sharing with you everything they have been learning. It was lovely to see the confidence with which the children conducted their class assemblies. They presented their work in a mature and professional manner and attempted to make their parents do some schoolwork!
As we get closer to the SATS we will focus on exam technique and ensure gaps in their understanding of the curriculum are filled. They will continue to receive weekly homework and we thank you for your continued support with this. We look forward to seeing you at the SATs parent’s workshop on Wednesday 24th January in Trooper Potts Hall.
If you have purchased the CGP books, please continue to use them. They are clearly helping the children with their school work.
