Term 2 2017-18
Our learning this term
The children have thoroughly enjoyed our topic on celebrations. We started by learning about Divali. The children loved making divas, coconut ladoos and acting out the story of Rama and Sita. We have also learnt about Bonfire Night. The children enjoyed finding out about Guy Fawkes, watching sparklers in the garden and making fireworks pictures. We then moved on to learning about International Children’s week and Christmas!
Child initiated learning is extremely important in Foundation. We encourage the children to be independent learners, to select their own resources and to take responsibility for their own learning. In Maths, our tables are set up with Maths activities for the children to choose. They always amaze us with the comments, observations and ability to explain their learning. Teen numbers, capacity, repeating patterns, using numicon and graph work are just some of the activities the children have enjoyed.
Free flow remains an excellent opportunity for the children to follow their own interests with the support of their teachers. This term they have been amazing us with their independent mark making, ability to apply their own learning and use their imaginations.
Forest school has been a real highlight of this term. We had great fun learning about autumn, making clay hedgehogs and listening to the different sounds in the woods using magic listening gems! We also enjoyed having some free time to explore. Digging for worms and making mud paint was fantastic!
We are looking forward to next term when our new topic will be Traditional Tales. Over the holidays keep encouraging your children to play, mark make and, of course, read! Your child will receive a ‘wow’ sheet to record their holiday news (these are also available on the class page on the Katesgrove website.) We look forward to reading them!
We wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a Happy New Year.
