Term 1 2018-19
Our learning this term
The Reception Classes have thoroughly enjoyed their first term at school and the children have settled into their new routines very well. They have loved exploring their new learning areas: our garden, shared area, kitchen and our three classrooms.
Our topic for this half term has been ‘Traditional Tales’ and the children have enjoyed learning these stories by heart using story maps and puppets. They have made their own story maps and have enjoyed acting out the stories too in our outside area.
We have also been very busy with our Maths. This term we have focussed on developing basic skills including counting and shapes. We have learnt lots of new number songs which have helped the children with their counting and the children have enjoyed going on shape hunts around the classroom and garden.
We have begun our daily phonics lessons. We follow a scheme called Read, Write, Inc which helps the children to learn their letter sounds and letter formation. We have also been practicing our fine motor skills using tweezers, write dance, dough disco and handwriting practice.
Below are some pictures of the various parental / carer and grandparent visits from this term. We’ve loved having you in sharing time with us.
The highlight of our term has been watching our hen eggs hatch. They came as a clutch of 10 and we have loved seeing them hatch and grow. We have been observing, drawing and talking about the chicks and handling them with love.
Every day we do activities in our Key Worker groups. We have really loved cooking in particular and will carry on making healthy and tasty treats throughout the year!
We are looking forward to continuing our learning journey next term when our new topic will be 'Let’s Celebrate'. We will be finding out about Bonfire Night, Divali and Christmas.
