Term 1 2017-18
Our learning this term
Maple, Palm and Rowan classes have thoroughly enjoyed their first term at school and the children have settled into their new routine very well. They have loved exploring new areas including our garden, shared area, kitchen and our three classrooms.
Our topic for this half term has been ‘Marvellous Me’ and the children have enjoyed painting portraits, talking about our different families and learning about healthy eating – to name just a few activities! They enjoyed their talk from a local dentist who came to talk about the importance of brushing our teeth.
We have also been very busy with our Maths. This term we have focussed on developing basic skills including counting and shapes. We have learnt lots of new number songs which have helped the children with their counting and the children have enjoyed going on shape hunts around the classroom and garden.
We have also started daily phonics lessons. We follow a scheme called Read, Write, Inc which helps the children to learn their letter sounds and letter formation. It has been wonderful seeing how keen they are now becoming at mark making.
We are looking forward to continuing our learning journey next term when our new topic will be Let’s Celebrate. We will be finding out about Bonfire Night, Divali and Christmas.
