Term 1 2017-18
Our learning this term
This term the children settled well into their new classes in Year Six and have been working hard. In Maths, we focussed on Place Value, Calculation and Times tables (it is really important that they continue to practise this). In Reading, we have been focussing on vocabulary, retrieving information and making inferences and deductions using quotes from the text as evidence. In Writing, the children wrote perilous journey stories based on the story of Private Peaceful. In addition to this, the children wrote Non-Chronological reports based on a fictional creature which they created based on our Science topic of Living Things and Habitats.
We also learnt about the history of Reading and enjoyed a trip to Reading where we looked for the evidence of Reading’s past. During this trip, we visited Reading Museum. In addition to this, we were fortunate to have visitors from the Trooper Potts Trust who talked to us about how and why this brave soldier received the Victoria Cross.
Next term all three Year 6 classes will continue to work at the same pace as they did in Term One. They will continue to receive weekly homework and we thank you for your continued support with this.
